Northeast enrollment tops 5,000 students

More than 5,000 students are enrolled at Northeast Community College this fall, including nearly 1,000 first-time freshmen and more than 2,300 high school students taking college courses.

Northeast reported a total enrollment of 5,058 students in its Fall 2026 10th-day enrollment report. The total includes 988 firsttime freshmen and 2,325 students participating in the college’s early college program.

College officials said affordability and access remain priorities as families face the rising cost of higher education. According to Northeast, 91% of its first-time, full-time degree-seeking students receive financial aid.

More than half of Northeast students are also the first members of their families to attend college, with approximately 53% identifying as first-generation students.

“We know students and families are looking for a college that is both affordable and careerfocused,” said Amanda Nipp, vice president of student services. “Northeast provides a high-quality education, personalized support and strong outcomes, all at a cost that helps students build a future without being burdened by excessive debt.”

Nipp said the college is proud students continue to choose Northeast as a pathway to educational and career opportunities.

Early college continues to account for a significant portion of Northeast’s enrollment. The program allows area high school students to earn college credit while completing high school, potentially reducing the time and cost required to earn a degree or other credential.

“Northeast’s mission is rooted in expanding access to education,” President Leah Barrett said. “Whether a student is taking their first college class in high school, beginning a degree after graduation, preparing to transfer to a university or learning new skills for a career, we are committed to meeting students where they are and helping them achieve their goals.”

Northeast serves a 20-county area and works with schools, employers and communities to provide workforce training, transfer programs and other educational opportunities.

The college’s current strategic plan, Rise Together, focuses on student success, workforce development, innovation and community engagement.
