It was a big meet for finding each runner’s true potential, and with an extra layer of extreme weather, that potential should keep growing in the next month.
“A lot of it’s trial and error, and that’s why we’re lucky at the beginning of the season. It’s a chance for them to learn, and we’re glad it’s the second meet of the season. Every meet, they can learn something from and take it to the next,” Heng said.
While a tough race on the girls side, Olivia Jessen secured a 17thplace medal with a time of 22:51 and the team scored sixth place. Heng said it’s an issue of learning how to run not based on where they think they should finish but pushing for where they can finish.
“It doesn’t matter where you placed a week or where you’re at in practice,” he said. “If you feel good, go out and get it.”
Battle Creek runs next at Norfolk Catholic’s invite on Friday.
